Welcome back Year 6!

Important information

PE - For the first half term PE will be on Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit including a white t-shirt, black shorts, black jogging bottoms, a black long sleeved top and trainers.

Homework

  • Maths homework (maths booklets) and English homework will be given out on a Friday and will be due in the following Friday.
  • Spellings will also be set on a Friday and there will be a spelling test the following Friday. Spellings can be found on the Year 6 page of the school website.
  • Reading. It is also incredibly important for your child to continue reading on a regular basis (at least 4 times a week). Your child can read to themselves or to an adult. We would also encourage 'book talk' at home - discussing the plot of the story, the characters, your child's favourite part of the book, making predictions about what they think might happen next.

London Day 1

It was an early start for Year 6 when they arrived at school ready for their residential in London. The children were soon on their way and the first stop was the Science Museum where the children explored the different areas of the museum and bought some goodies from the giftshop. After that, we headed to Westminster to take a walking tour of the capital. The children discovered lots of interesting information about a number of attractions around London. After there, we headed for a delicious dinner followed by a trip to the Lyceum Theatre to watch the Lion King. It was a busy day and the children were certainly ready for their beds when we arrived at the hotel later that night.

London - Day 2

It was an early start but that meant a lovely breakfast at the hotel! Once everyone was full, we made our way back into the centre of London - the first stop was the London Eye. The children had a lovely time spotting the sights from inside their capsule. After that, we headed across Westminster Bridge to catch our Thames River Cruise for a tour of London from the river. Sadly, that was our final experience in the city as it was time to leave and make our way back to Radford Semele. The children had such a wonderful time and created so many incredible memories - what a fantastic way to mark their final weeks at Radford!

Masterclass Art. Tonal portraits in the style of Banksy

Area Athletics

Year 5 and 6 competed against other schools in track and field events. They all had a great time and showed generosity in their support of each other.

Children's Forest

On Thursday, Year 6 visited the Children's Forest where they enjoyed exploring the woods, playing games and finding out more about the trees they planted last year. The children demonstrated our school values of Respect and Responsibility throughout the day.

Design Technology - Year 6 have designed and made their own tote bags. They all did a fantastic job!

Year 5 & 6 Christmas Carol Concert

Art masterclass - Y6 studied William Morris and designed their own print block to decorate a piece of textile.

Anti-Bullying Week 11th-15th November - Odd Sock Day

Year 6 Class Assembly - Respect

Science - Light

For their first lesson on Light, the children found out about how we see. The children below are demonstrating how light from a light source shines on an object and then this is reflected into our eyes - this is how we see.

Art Week

During Art Week, each class in school focused on the work of an individual artist. Year 6 studied the portraits of LS Lowry and produced their own portraits in a similar style.

Radford Semele C of E Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment.
