Art is taught as part of our theme curriculum and through lessons we aim to provide opportunities for children to develop and extend skills, gain knowledge of a variety of artists and makers and use these skills and knowledge to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.
Children will produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences, become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques and evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
As part of our Masterclass sessions, children will be introduced to great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms. Areas covered include sculpture, mosaics, printing, nature, portraiture, photography, painting, pointillism, graffiti and the works of modern and classical artists. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture and creativity of our world.
