Awards and Accreditations

Awards and Accreditations

At Radford Semele, we are constantly striving to grow and develop into the best school we can be. Our school vision of 'a family of learners expecting the best' is lived out through all that we do. In order to offer the highest quality of education to all and so that everyone in our school community 'may have life to the full' (John 10:10), we have worked hard, and will continue to do so, to earn a range of awards and accreditations.

Rights Respecting School

In 2022, our School Council began working on achieving our first UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools award.

The award puts children's rights at the heart of schools and aims to create a safe and inspiring place to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. We thought that this award linked well to our school vision.

We were really pleased that through their hard work and dedication they managed to achieve the Bronze: Rights Committed Award in March 2023. To achieve this, they had to begin a pupil-led Steering Group, inform the whole school about the project, become familiar with the UNCRC, evaluate our school's current practice and create an action plan.

This year, our latest School Councillors have continued to make a positive impact upon our school working hard towards our Silver: Rights Aware award. They have created a whole school display to raise awareness and listened to pupil feedback to make change! We now regularly discuss rights as part of Collective Worship as well as in day-to-day life around school. The teachers have been working hard to review lots of our policies to ensure children's rights are at the centre of all we do!

We are so proud that we have now achieved our Silver award and will begin working towards gold!

Our Steering Group, decided to put together a video to show what being a 'Rights Respecting School' means to us: https://radford-semele-ce-primary.primarysite.media/media/what-does-being-a-rights-respecting-school-mean--1

Picture News Impact Award

Every two weeks, we base our Collective Worship around 'Picture News' where we discuss a current topical picture. We enjoy this time to reflect as a school family and have found that different pictures we have looked at have inspired acts of courageous advocacy across school. This year, Picture News launched their 'impact awards' to celebrate the impact that children have made following learning about something that is happening in the world. We loved sharing what a positive difference the children across our school have made this year, which you can see from a small selection of photos below:

We were thrilled to be awarded with the gold level award for our sustained positive impact. The judges at Picture News commented on how the children have worked hard to raise money for many different people in need and raised awareness of numerous charities. They were also impressed with the long-term impact the children have made on becoming more environmentally friendly.

Have a look on our Community and Charity webpage to find out more about the positive difference we are making!

Eco School's Green Flag status with distinction

This year, our Eco Committee have worked extremely hard to make our school and local community more environmentally friendly.

They began by carrying out an Environmental Review of our school to identify what we were doing well and how we could improve. They used the results of this survey to identify three focus areas and formulated an action plan. They decided to work on becoming better global citizens, improving our school grounds and reducing energy. Throughout the year, they have worked extremely hard on a range of projects and have involved others in their work.

We were delighted when their hard work was recognised by Eco Schools when they were awarded with Green Flag status with distinction. Head over to our Eco Schools webpage to find out more.

Radford Semele C of E Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment.
