Equality Objectives

Equality Objectives 2022- 2026

At Radford Semele C of E Primary School, our theologically based vision states: ‘we are a family of learners expecting the best’. Our ethos is to ensure that all members of our school community thrive, diversity and differences are valued and respected by all and they contribute to the richness of our school life; “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” John, 10:10.

At Radford Semele C of E Primary School our values of respect, creativity, perseverance, forgiveness, responsibility and generosity are underpinned by our vision and verse flowing into every aspect of school life.

We believe that diversity is a strength which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here. We promote equality by:

  • Creating and maintaining a school ethos which promotes equality, develops understanding and challenges myths, stereotypes, misconceptions and prejudices.
  • Encouraging everyone in our school community to have a positive self-image and high self-esteem.
  • Promoting mutual respect and valuing each other’s similarities and differences and facing equality issues openly and honestly.
  • Monitoring the progress and attainment of disadvantaged pupils, those with special educational needs and those who have English as an additional language in order to support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching.
  • Tackle discrimination by the positive promotion of equality, challenging bullying and stereotypes and creating an environment which champions respect for all.
  • Monitoring and reviewing all the above to secure continuous improvement in all we do.

Equality targets 2022-2026

1. To raise levels of progress and attainment in all subjects for disadvantaged children.

We will do this by:

  • Identifying and removing barriers to learning for children considered disadvantaged
  • Ensuring excellent standards of teaching and learning, with high-quality intervention and support for disadvantaged children
  • Robust tracking and monitoring of attainment and progress of disadvantaged pupils, with swift action to address underperformance

2. To continue to promote equality of opportunity in enrichment activities.

We will do this by:

  • Regularly monitoring the uptake of activities
  • Ensuring that there is a range of activities to meet the needs of our diverse community
  • Enabling disadvantaged pupils to attend enrichment activities to ensure equal access and increased engagement

3. To increase pupil awareness and understanding of different communities and faiths through collective worship, cultural events, visits and visitors being mindful of our heritage as a C of E Primary School.

We will do this by:

  • Recognising and teaching about a wide range of religious and cultural festivals through collective worship
  • Inviting visitors of different faiths into school and visiting places of religious significance to enable children to learn about a range of religions, faiths and cultures through first-hand experiences
Radford Semele C of E Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment.
