Song of Sounds Phonics
In Reception we use a phonics scheme called Song of Sounds. We have a phonics lesson every day where we learn the skills we need to help us read and write.
A parent guide can be found by copying and pasting the link, you will find useful information explaining what phonics is, how we teach it in Reception and how you can help at home.

The Zones of Regulation
We use the Zones of Regulation to help us to identify and name our feelings. We also begin to learn the important skill of self regulation so that we can start to manage our own feelings.
Reception have been learning all about feelings, we have given different groups of feelings zones which are listed above. We have been learning to recognise different feelings and to understand that all feelings are ok.
We then talked about how to help ourselves regulate, feel ok and get back into the green zone. We shared our ideas
Our Visit to the Farm
We were very lucky to go to visit Harriet's Dad - Farmer Sam - on the farm. We asked him lots of questions to find out what he does all day. There were so many lambs - some of us were happy to give them a cuddle! We saw lots of machinery and had a turn in the tractor too.
Reception class were artists for the morning! During our learning celebration we found out about Andy Goldsworth's art in nature and then created some amazing pieces of art work of our own.
What do grown ups do all day?
Pancake Day
Having read Mr Wolf's Pancakes, we worked together to measure the ingredients to make pancake batter. We all loved having a go at tossing the pancakes. They went everywhere - on the floor, on the radiator, on shoes, on heads, and even on the washing machine door! Everyone then enjoyed eating a fresh pancake.
Supertato and The Evil Pea!
Reception class had a visit from The Evil Pea at the start of the week, watch as the adventure unfolds.....
Ice Ornaments
Reception class made the most of the icy weather by making ice ornaments. First we collected foliage in the forest. Then we chose pieces to make our ornament with, we put them in our dishes and covered them with water. We put in a piece of string. Then we left them over night. In the morning they were frozen solid, we hung them on our tree. They looked beautiful!
Reception's Nativity Play!
Reception wore odd socks for Odd Socks Day to celebrate our uniqueness, we are all different and special!
Autumn Poems
Our First Day
We all thoroughly enjoyed our first day in Reception. We have had fun exploring our new environment, learning new routines, and have already begun to make new friends.
