The Bee Musical

Year 3 and 4 have wowed us with their dress rehearsal of 'The Bee Musical' this morning! Their singing, delivery of their lines, dances and acting were all phenomenal and we are so excited to share their performance with parents and carers on Wednesday and Thursday - you're in for a real treat 🐝!

RE DAY - When Jesus left, what was the impact of Pentecost?

Year 4 have had a brilliant day reflecting and understanding Pentecost in a deeper way. We asked interesting questions and considered the importance of Pentecost to Christians.

Rocksteady Concert

It was great to see that so many Year 4 children took part in the Rocksteady concert last Wednesday. The children couldn't wait to get on that stage and give their absolute best performance. Pupils did a great job and the concert was enjoyed by all! Well done everyone!

World Book Day

Year 4 had a brilliant day celebrating the wonderful world of books! Thank you for all of the creativity with your fabulous outfits. We took part in a live drawalong with an illustrator, we completed a reading quiz about our favourite books, wrote our own graphic novels, designed our own book covers and participated in a treasure hunt to solve the mystery of the gingerbread!

Southam Solar Farm

This week, Year 4 were very lucky to have a special visitor called Sarah from 'Earth Energy Education' come to our school and teach us all about solar panels, including how to measure the amount of light produced in different areas around the school. This hands-on learning experience was a fantastic way to deepen our understanding of renewable energy. Adding to the excitement, we had a fun  trip to Southam Solar Farm, where we got to see solar power in action on a much larger scale. A big thank you to Sarah and Sergio for their support and for helping make these learning opportunities so memorable!

Polar Visitor

As part of our new 'Polar Regions' Theme, Year 4 were thrilled to welcome our special visitor, Lynnette, who shared her amazing experiences from her trip to Antarctica. The children loved seeing her photos and hearing her stories about life in one of the coldest and most remote places on Earth. She told us all about the wildlife, the weather and what it is like to live and work in such extreme conditions.

The session finished with a lively question-and-answer session, where pupils asked lots of thoughtful and interesting questions. Lynnette was really impressed by their curiosity and enjoyed sharing even more about her incredible journey. Thank you so much to Lynnette for giving up her time to come and speak to us!

Children's Mental Health Week

This week we celebrated 'Children’s Mental Health Week' to focus on wellbeing and supporting positive mental health. On Wednesday, all classes took part in a live workshop with Picture News and throughout the week, all year groups took part in activities designed to help children understand and manage their emotions. Year 4 explored mindfulness exercises, including guided reflections, to practise being present and managing stress. Other classes took part in breathing exercises, meditation, positive affirmations and physical activities to boost mood and build resilience. It was wonderful to see the children engaging thoughtfully in activities that support both their mental and physical wellbeing. Children were also spoken to about different ways to support their own mental health and reminded about who they can talk to if they are worried or need help.

Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week

Odd Socks Day was a fun and colourful way to celebrate what made everyone different and special! We wore our brightest, wackiest, and most mismatched socks. It was a wonderful reminder that it’s okay to stand out and be yourself. The event also helped us talk about kindness, respect, and anti-bullying. By wearing odd socks, we showed that we value everyone for who they are, no matter how different they might be.

Science - Which fizzy drink is the fizziest?

We carried out an investigation to consider which fizzy drink is the fizziest to evaluate whether gas has mass! We worked in groups and tested each drink three times to ensure we carried out a fair and accurate test. We had four drinks; CocaCola, Dr Pepper, Fanta and Sprite. Then we ensured to measure the same amount of each liquid (100ml). We then weighed the drinks when fizzy and then 2 hours later when flat. We then calculated the difference between these results to see the difference in carbon dioxide. The drink with the greatest difference would be the fizziest. Our findings show that Sprite was the fizziest drink and Fanta was the least fizzy drink!

Art Masterclass

Year 4 had their first art masterclass of the year and looked at the intricate and detailed artwork of the Anglo-Saxons. They used their observation skills to try to recreate some of the amazing designs.

Viking Villagers visit to Compton Verney

Year 4 had a fantastic time on their trip to Compton Verney, where they took part in an exciting Viking Villagers workshop. The children were transported back in time to the Viking era and experienced what life was like in a Viking settlement. Through hands-on activities, they explored traditional Viking crafts, learnt about daily life and survival skills, prepared some delicious Viking bread and even took part in role-play as Viking villagers. The workshop was a brilliant opportunity to deepen their understanding of our Theme topic this term and brought the world of the Vikings to life in a fun, interactive way.

Thank you to Miss Dineen-Such, Mrs Reynolds and Heather for your help on our trip!

Times Tables Learning Event

Year 4 welcomed parents and carers for their times tables learning event this week! We played several games including; times tables snap, a memory game, a matching activity, Times Tables Rockstars and even did some active maths with supermovers and ended with a rather competitive game of bingo! Thank you for joining us and supporting your children with learning their times tables up to 12 x 12 - we hope you enjoyed the event.

Hello Yellow - World Mental Health Day!

Today we celebrated World Mental Health Day as a whole school, to highlight the importance of keeping our minds healthy and looking after our wellbeing. We played wellbeing bingo, practised a range of breathing/calming exercises and also took part in some mindfulness colouring.

Swimming at Southam Leisure Centre

Year 4 have demonstrated many of our values including; perseverance, responsibility and respect during our swimming lessons for Autumn term! It has been fantastic to see how much progress the children have made in such a short space of time - even the instructors commented on their fabulous progress! Well done year 4 and keep up the hard work!

Harvest Service

Year 4 were fantastic at leading our Harvest Service at Church on Thursday! They sang beautifully, linked our service to our six school values and even demonstrated the Bible story ‘The Parable of the Farmer and seeds’. Mr Andrews and Mrs Reynolds were both incredibly proud of the children and their fantastic efforts with this service. Well done everyone - You were fabulous!
