SPRING TERM 2 - PE will take place every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure their full kit is kept in school on their peg. PE kits will be sent home at the end of term.
World Book Day
During World Book Day week we took part in an online event to listen to an alternative version of 'Goldilocks', where we had a go at drawing a bear.
On World Book Day we wrote our own version: "Goldilocks and the Three Giraffes", which has been made into a book for us to enjoy. We love reading for pleasure!
We had such fun in our character costumes, doing an orienteering activity to solve a mystery, and doing a book swap to each take home a new book to enjoy.
British Motor Museum
Year 1 had a fantastic day at The British Motor Museum with a 'Journey Through Time' theme. We compared cars right from the first ever car through to modern cars, got on board Bessie the Bus, and were even taken for a ride in an old-fashioned car...with no seatbelts!
St John's Museum
Year 1 had their school trip to learn about a Victorian Christmas at St John's Museum, Warwick. We used our imagination to travel back in time experiencing a Victorian schoolroom, Victorian Christmas pudding baking, and making cornucopia Christmas decorations. It was a fabulous day full of learning and fun!
Design and Technology - Teddies
Our parents joined us for our Learning Celebration, which was super helpful to enable us to develop our sewing skills to make teddy bears. Most of us had never done sewing and it was a challenge for us and for our parents, but we really enjoyed the process and love what we made.
We are historians....Victorian Toys
Year 1 were developing their skills as historians this week. We thought about how we might be able to find out about toys from the past and then had the opportunity to try out some Victorian-style wooden toys. We really enjoyed the challenge of trying to get them to work successfully. We also made our own spinners. We are looking forward to our trip in a couple of weeks when we get to find out about the Victorian Christmas too.
Maths Rich Task
We worked in pairs to try to find all the possibilities of the total of two dice. We worked hard together and then brought all our ideas together as a class, working systematically, to find all 21 solutions. The lowest total we found was 1 and 1 = 2, and the largest total was 6 and 6 = 12.
Remembrance Day
Ready for Remembrance Day we painted poppies and thought about all the people who sacrificed their lives for our country in the wars.
Odd Socks
Odd Socks Day marks the start of Anti-Bullying week. We all wore odd socks and designed our own odd sock too.
Diwali
One of our parents kindly joined us to help us understand about Diwali, the Festival of Light, which will be celebrated soon by Hindus and Sikhs. We learnt about the meaning of the festival and had the chance to decorate and make lanterns.
Geography
We have been learning about our school and our village. We used compass directions to help us find other school features and drew maps with keys of our outside area. We went for a walk around Radford Semele village to find human and physical features.
Traditional Tales
We have used familiar Traditional Tales to develop our English skills to build and write sentences. These stories have also allowed us to be creative, particularly with construction. We tried to make each of the Three Little Pigs' houses, mixed porridge for Goldilocks, and challenged ourselves to create tall beanstalks using different objects.
Teamwork, Exploration, Inclusion
We have been very fortunate with the weather, which has enabled us to use our outside area during Busy Time. We are being creative and working as teams to build a cinema, owl house and bug hotel. Our exploring has meant we have discovered a huge range of minibeasts, and our class expert helps us out by naming them and providing facts for us to learn.
Start of term
It has been wonderful getting to know the Year 1 children in this first week of term. We have begun some of our learning in English and maths and introduced our Autumn term theme 'Myself, My School and My Village'. We are developing our listening and following instruction skills further so that we are ready to learn, and we are loving exploring all the different equipment and resources during Busy Time. During PSHE we have already been sharing what we love about school and how we can show the school rules: Ready, Respect and Kind. What a great start!
