Children's Forest - Group B

We had a fantastic day at in Tallis Wood learning about the Children's Fire and the rewilding project. We played games and practised out fire lighting skills before heading to the Children's Forest for a spot of poetry writing and of course, a game of the famous 'Sink and Fade'! The children used charcoal from the fire to make themselves camouflaged

World Mental Health Day

Y5 completed wellbeing activities to mark World Mental Health Day.

Children's Forest Group A

Half of Y5 had a fantastic day at the Children's Forest. They listened to Aggie explain all about the purpose and origin of the forest and the 'Children's Fire'. Games, fire lighting and den building took up the morning in the woods, while the afternoon was spent playing 'Sink and Fade', enjoying the huge swing and drawing the trees.

Botanical Gardens Trip

Year 5 had a great time at The Botanical Gardens in Birmingham as part of their theme learning about the rainforest. They had a 'Rainforest Challenge' where children hunted for plants to match the clues and a 'Rainforest Fun' session where they found out about the animals of the rainforest. The children listened brilliantly and asked some fantastic questions. Children had the opportunity to touch or hold stick insects, a giant snail, bearded dragon and a snake! Even those that were a little nervous challenged themselves. Well done year 5!

Week one in Y5!

We have had a great week and the children have settled brilliantly into their new routines. We have been doing lots of grammar work this week and have started maths learning with lessons on place value. We have begun our theme of Rainforests and The Maya and enjoyed looking at Maya art and responding to it in our sketchbooks. I have been really impressed with the mature behaviour and focus on learning, even during a very competitive game of dodgeball in PE.
