Awards and Accreditations
At Radford Semele, we are constantly striving to grow and develop into the best school we can be. Our school vision of 'a family of learners expecting the best' is lived out through all that we do. In order to offer the highest quality of education to all and so that everyone in our school community 'may have life to the full' (John 10:10), we have worked hard, and will continue to do so, to earn a range of awards and accreditations.
Rights Respecting School
In 2022, our School Council began working on achieving our first UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools award.
The award puts children's rights at the heart of schools and aims to create a safe and inspiring place to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. We thought that this award linked well to our school vision.
We were really pleased that through their hard work and dedication they managed to achieve the Bronze: Rights Committed Award in March 2023. To achieve this, they had to begin a pupil-led Steering Group, inform the whole school about the project, become familiar with the UNCRC, evaluate our school's current practice and create an action plan.
In 2024, our School Councillors continued to make a positive impact upon our school working hard towards our Silver: Rights Aware award. They have created a whole school display to raise awareness and listened to pupil feedback to make change! We now regularly discuss rights as part of Collective Worship as well as in day-to-day life around school. The teachers have been working hard to review lots of our policies to ensure children's rights are at the centre of all we do! We are so proud that we have now achieved our Silver award and constantly trying to improve our school.
In 2025 and 2026 our goal is to work towards our gold award. Gold is the third stage of the Rights Respecting School award and is granted by UNICEF UK to schools that have embedded children’s rights through every aspect of school life, practice and ethos.

Eco School's Green Flag status with distinction
We are thrilled to share that Radford Semele Primary School has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction for the fourth consecutive year. The Eco-Schools programme is an internationally recognised award that celebrates schools for their commitment to environmental education and sustainable action. The award with distinction is the highest international accolade awarded to schools, colleges, and nurseries that go above and beyond the standard Seven-Step environmental framework. The assessors were particularly impressed by the wide range of initiatives led by our pupils, including classroom Energy Monitors helping to reduce energy use, our enthusiastic litter-picking club caring for the school environment, and KS1 pupils monitoring water usage to prevent waste. They also praised our creative Art Week inspired by Sir David Attenborough, Year 3’s learning from Severn Trent Water about the water cycle, and the strong representation on our Eco-Committee, ensuring every voice in the school can contribute to protecting the environment. The assessors commented on the passion, awareness and commitment shown by our children, and we are incredibly proud of everyone who has helped achieve this fantastic recognition.

Picture News Impact Award
Every two weeks, we base our Collective Worship around 'Picture News' where we discuss a current topical picture. We enjoy this time to reflect as a school family and have found that different pictures we have looked at have inspired acts of courageous advocacy across school.
We are really proud to have earnt the Impact Award in both 2023 and 2025 for the positive difference children have made in our school.
In our latest feedback, the judges commented: "We loved seeing all the different projects the children have been working on over the course of the year. Reception did amazingly well raising over £200 for Water Aid! The ongoing nature of 'The Children's Forest' project is a fantastic way for children to see the impact they are having on the environment! We look forward to seeing how this progresses in the future!".
