Art Gallery Trip to Compton Verney
On Monday 20th October, Year 2 enjoyed a brilliant trip to the Compton Verney art gallery to take part in a printmaking workshop. The children explored the galleries and took inspiration from some of their favourite pieces of folk art. They then created a tile of their favourite design and printed a repeating pattern. Well done Year 2!
Music
In music, we have had lots of fun using our percussion instruments in our Call and Response unit. We have just started our Musical Storytelling unit and have been finding out all about how dynamics and tempo can change to reflect what is happening in a story!
Here is a video of us completing a musical warm up by listening carefully and following the music tracing patterns to Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy!
Hello Yellow
We celebrated World Mental Health Day today by wearing yellow and taking part in well-being activities. Here were are doing mindfulness colouring, word searches and yoga.
BREAKING NEWS!
The children have had a lot of fun reporting news of the Great Fire of Warwick this week. They really impressed us with their awareness of the audience, confident delivery and excellent turn taking and collaboration.
Which material will make the best curtains?
Year 2 have been thinking carefully about materials and their properties. They investigated different materials to find out which would make the best blackout curtains.
Year 2 historians
Year 2 have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. This week they have learnt about historical sources and in particular about eye witness accounts like Samuel Pepys' diary. The children enjoyed acting as historians and piecing together his diary to learn what had happened.
Masterclass Art
Year 2 had their first masterclass art lesson this week and revised what they remembered about complimentary colours before learning about warm and cool tones. They used their excellent colour mixing skills to match each colour on the colour wheel with watercolour. Well doneY2!
Our First week
We have had such a brilliant first week in Year 2! The children have settled in so well and we have been so impressed by how well they have listened and their hard work. We have gotten stuck in with our English and maths learning and have also enjoyed some of our foundation subjects like music and computing! In our music lesson, we started our new 'Call and Response' unit and used a range of untuned percussion instruments to recreate the sounds of animals. Well done Year 2! Keep up the brilliant work!
