Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Mr Andrews, Mrs Jamfar and Miss Potter

We are so overwhelmed and grateful for the incredible gifts and cards from Year 4. Thank you so much for your kind words and support, we really do appreciate it. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with your wonderful children throughout what has been an unforgettable year! Thank you all for being such a joy to teach and for facing every challenge with a smile on your faces. We will miss you all but we are so incredibly proud of you all and wish you the best of luck for Year 5.

Have an AMAZING summer!

Mr Andrews and Mrs Jamfar x

Year 4 absolutely loved making their Christingles as part of a virtual collective worship with Martin. The children learned what each part of the Christingle represents and were able to discuss this with their partner. We had lots of fun and made some brilliant Christingles! Well done Year 4 smiley

In Science, we have just started our new topic all about Electricity! We have discussed the key components of a circuit (battery, bulb, switch and wires) and have talked about how to make a complete circuit. We carried out an investigation to see whether we could build our own circuits - as you can see from the photos, it was a great success!

In Theme, we have continued to research into our Vikings topic and have compared different sources (some written by Anglo-Saxon monks and others writing by Viking warriors) in order to see how different sources about the Vikings can contradict each other. We researched in groups and used a variety of sources to compare and contrast different perceptions of the Vikings. Then, we divided the class in half and had a debate about a range of different statements - it was a lot of fun!

Protective Behaviours

The whole school has learned about 'Protective Behaviours' as part of our PSHE. If you would like to find out more about what we have been doing, please take a look at the links below.

Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, we have discussed influential black Britons who have helped make the world a better place. We have also watched a Horrible Histories episode which discussed some of the most important black figures in History and the legacy they have had on our lives. We created our own posters about inspirational black Britons and shared them with the rest of the class. Our display has also been updated in celebration of Black History Month!

In Theme, we have been learning all about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We have written some fantastic biographies about Alfred the Great, including lots of important information about his life. We have also written non-chronological reports about Anglo-Saxon life and have produced some amazing narrative poems about Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf.

In Art we have designed and created our very own (cardboard) Anglo-Saxon shields! They are currently on display in our classroom and they look absolutely brilliant. We considered the different designs that were used and focused on pattern and shape to recreate a similar style.

In English, we have been very fortunate to take part in weekly Zoom sessions with poet and author, Pie Corbett. So far, we have produced some wonderful poetry focusing on our use of similes, metaphors and descriptive language.

In Science, we are currently learning about states of matter. We have thought about solids, liquids and gases and categorised them into these different groups. We have investigated the melting and freezing point of water and other materials. We have also been conducting experiments and considering what makes a fair test.
