Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning together.

Keep an eye right here on our Class Page as there will be more information about what we will be up to and how to support us at home.

We had a fantastic time at Sports Day!

This afternoon, we have been learning all about the symbolism of Christingles and made our very own ones to take home!

We have been incredibly busy in Year 3 over the past few weeks. In English, we have been preparing to write our own newspaper articles and, in Maths, we've been working hard on our multiplication and division knowledge. In Science, we have been learning about friction and testing the affect of different materials on how quickly a toy car will travel down a ramp. We also really enjoyed working in teams on our reconstructions of Stonehenge - it was more challenging than a lot of us expected!

Tomorrow (Wednesday), the Year 3 children will be bringing home a reminder of their, and the school's, sign-ons for MyMaths. They are the same as they would have used when learning at home in Year 2 but I wanted to resend them in case you can not find the details from Year 2 and because MyMaths is a great resource that the children can use at any time (signing on with the main school sign-on) to access lots of resources to practise their maths learning at home. Their individual sign-ons (on the same sheet) should be kept safe in case we need to set individual work for children to access at home at some point.

With their MyMaths sign-ons, they will also come home with sign-ons for 'Times Table Rock Stars'. 'TTRS' is a great tool that children across the school can access at home in order to help them develop their recall of the times tables and their confidence in maths. It is ready for them (and you!) to have a play around on at home and the children can create their rockstar avatars and start practising immediately!

Ms B

We have been very busy in Year 3 since coming back to school after half term. We started with our 2nd RE Day on Hinduism. We really enjoyed learning all about Gandhi and the inspirational things that he said. We also shared our learning with Year 4 at the end of the day! In English and Theme, we have continued with our work on the Stone Age and we have been looking at explanation texts. In Maths, we have been developing our skills of telling the time. In Science, we have completed our 'Rocks' unit and are excited to start our new topic on 'Forces and Magnets'!

This week, we are learning all about ‘Protective Behaviours’. We have been enjoying fun activities which encourage self-empowerment and help us to recognise and trust our intuitive feelings which we call ‘Early Warning Signs’.

Please find the links below to three parent resources which can tell you more about Protective Behaviours:

We have been very busy in Year 3! We learned lots of interesting things about Hinduism during our RE day and have been doing different experiments in Science to learn more about Rocks. We've been practising our Maths skills and enjoyed playing a doubling and halving board game with our partners. We have begun work on our Stone Age art. We learned all about Cueva de los Manos in Argentina and experimented with different textures to recreate the artwork ourselves!
