October Information Evening
Year 1 really enjoyed Empty Classrooms Day 2019! We spent the morning outside completing lots of tasks about our study author Julia Donaldson and in the afternoon we took part in an orienteering task that was organised for us by Year 6 pupils!
Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic time at Ryton Pools. We worked brilliantly in teams to build fantastic dens and it was lots of fun to test if they were strong and waterproof! We also had a go at pond-dipping and found lots of different mini-beasts to look at closely! The teachers were really proud of all of the children and want to say a big thank you to our parent helpers!
Year 1 had a great time during World Book Day 2019! We all dressed up as our favourite characters and did lots of fantastic reading, writing and artwork during the special day.
In our science topic Working like a Scientist we wanted to find out what would make fish will travel the furthest. The children made paper fish and experimented using straws, plastic bottles and blowing with their mouths. They then predicted and had great fun having paper fish races! They found out the best way to blow the fish was with their mouths. Most winning fish were moved in this way.
During our Indian Spice theme day, our visitors taught us some Bhangra dancing and told us stories about Indian culture!
During our Indian Spice topic, we had a go at different yoga poses!
During our Indian Spice topic, we found information about cricket and then had a go at playing ourselves!
During literacy lessons, we have been using puppets to re-tell stories we have read.
During literacy lessons, we have been learning about alphabetical order and have used dictionaries to help us find the meaning of words.
In our science topic Humans we used our senses. We smelt pots and guessed what was hidden einside. We felt to decide which items we thought were in bags and we tasted different crisps to guess the flavour. We also listened to some mystery sounds and told a partner what we thought was making them.
During our Great Fire of London topic, we created our own animations of events we knew took place during the fire.
During our Great Fire of London topic, we pieced together extracts from the diary of Samuel Pepys. We then talked to each other about what our team found out from the diary.
During our Great Fire of London topic, we made Pudding Lanes cakes. We read the instructions, followed them together and then tasted our cakes!
We read 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' and then designed and created our own sparkly shoes!
During our School Days topic, we visited St. John's Museum. We found out lots about what different Victorian homes looked like and we took part in lessons like the ones Victorian children had at school!
