Signs of Summer

Year 1 have been out and about looking for signs of summer as part of their 'Seasonal Changes' learning.

Measuring weight/mass

The children have been comparing the weight of objects using the vocabulary 'heavier than' and 'lighter than'. They have also used the balance scales to measure the weight of different objects using blocks as a non-standard unit of measure.

Jubilee Picnic

Making mustard sandwiches to stop the seagulls from eating Mr Grinling's picnic!

Church visit - looking for symbols and artefacts

Science Learning Celebration

Thank you to everyone for attending our learning celebration, it was a fantastic turn out! We tested lots of biscuits in our quest to find the best one for dunking, and after collecting all the data the children discovered it was the Bourbon. Some of them are very keen now to dunk and compare other biscuits so happy dunking everyone!

All of the children enjoyed the dance-a-thon and then we calmed down with a bit of 'Pose with a nose' yoga.

We had a brilliant morning at the MAD Museum, exploring all of the exhibits and having a go at creating our own on the MAD marble wall and table. In the afternoon we used recycled materials (thank you for all the donations) and playdough to design and make our own marble runs.

Science Week Curly Wurly Challenge

The children worked in groups to see how far they could stretch a curly wurly. A real test of teamwork!

Paper fish race!

The children collected data from 5 races to see which was the best way of moving a paper fish without touching it.

Fire safety visit from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service

The three little pigs science investigation

The children built houses from different materials and then tested how well they stood up to the huff and puff of a hairdryer.

Learning about money

The children have been learning about money and using coins to shop and work in our year 1 fruit and veg shop.

2D shape pictures

The children made pictures using different 2D shapes. They then identified and described the 2D shapes using mathematical language. Can you guess what each picture shows?

Welcome back and happy new year!

Thank you very much to you all for your generous gifts, it's very kind of you. We hope you all had a lovely time over the festive period and had plenty of rest.

It's been lovely to welcome the children back and of course Mrs Pike!

For the rest of the year Mrs Finn will teach Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Pike Thursday and Friday. Our wonderful Teaching Assistant, Mrs Skipper, will be with us most days. If you need to speak with either of us, please find our emails or phone the office or catch us on the door at the end of school.

This half term PE is on a Tuesday with Danny and a Thursday with Mrs Pike.

The children will be given maths homework and spellings each Friday. The maths homework must be returned anytime before the following Friday and there will be a spelling quiz each Friday too, so please help your child to learn the spellings. Spellings can be found under the 'Spellings' tab on this page. Any questions or concerns please just ask.
