Work through the powepoint about air resistance. Discuss how everything falls due to the force of gravity but things will fall more slowly if their shape helps the air to slow them down – this is air resistance.

 

Use 4 items such as a leaf, feather, paper, balloon, tissue etc… and carry out an investigation to find out which object will fall the slowest. Children to make and record a prediction of which will fall most slowly. Carry out the investigation and record results in a simple table of object and time to fall. Use a stopwatch to measure the time taken to fall.

 

Write a simple conclusion that explains why you think the slowest object took the longest time to fall.
