Maths

To start your maths learning each day, try one of the 'Rapid Reasoning' pages. They are similar to the 'Fluent in 5' pages that you have been working on but these practise your important Maths reasoning skills. This is the first week that you have come across 'Rapid Reasoning' and therefore you may find it challenging to begin with. You may wish to try to complete two questions on the first few days and extending to all three questions by the end of the week. 'Rapid Reasoning' questions are great for discussing with someone else!

On Friday (or at another time during the week, if you'd prefer), do the short arithmetic test that I have posted to practise these skills further!

Then, access the presentation slides or video which explain the learning we would be doing in class. Once you have spent some time on the learning, move to the PDFs where you can choose your level of challenge. The answers are on the final pages for you to see how you are getting on when you have completed the tasks.

Monday:

This week, we are going to be recapping and developing our subtraction skills!

Today, we are looking at subtracting multiples of 10 and near multiples.

Watch Ms Brown's video first. Then choose the part or parts that challenge you on the 'Subtracting multiples of ten and near multiples' Sheet. Some of you might like to use a blank number line to support your calculations, others might like to try to do the calculations in your heads.

**The subtraction tasks and answers for Monday - Wednesday are on the same document below**

Tuesday:

Today, we are looking at counting up to subtract.

Work through today's presentation and then choose your challenge from 'Subtracting any pair of 2-digit numbers' Sheet 1 or 2.

**The subtraction tasks and answers for Monday - Wednesday are on the same document under Monday's post**

Wednesday:

Today, we are looking at how we can choose between different strategies to subtract.

Watch Ms Brown's video for her to explain more and then choose your challenge from 'Strategies for subtracting 2-digit numbers' Sheet 1 or 2. If you would like some extra support on either sheet, you can use the lines on Sheet 3 to help you.

To extend your learning further, there are extra reasoning and problem-solving questions below for you!

Thursday:

Today, we are looking at subtracting a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number using counting up, still using Frog.

Work through today's presentation. Then, choose your challenge from 'Subtract by counting up' Sheet 1 or 2. If you are working on Sheet 1 and would like some extra support, use the landmarked lines on Sheet 1a to help you.

Friday:

Today we will work on mental and written maths.  Complete the short arithmetic test that I have posted to practise your skills! Remember to use a written method if you need to. Mark your answers when you have finished to see how you did.

Also, choose your 99Club level and see if you can complete it in the given time. You can find the different 99Club levels, and the answers, under 'Maths Extras'. Remember to mark your work... if you didn't get an answer correct this week, practise over the course of next week and see if you can improve your score next Friday. Once you have completed a level with all the correct answers in the given time 3 times, move onto the next level!
